The Slovenian resort of Bled is a truly magical destination with a unique landscape offering drama, beauty and mystery. Like something out of a fairy story, the Bled Lake is formed from glacier melt and fed by springs, and sits in a basin at the foot of majestic snow capped peaks; in its very centre sits a tiny island with pretty turreted castle. The thermal springs which feed the lake are also led off to make natural swimming pools for some of the tourist residences and healing spas which perch on the shoreline. This is one of the most breath taking alpine resorts in the world, and it is not hard to see why a wide variety of holiday makers return year after year. It enjoys a mild sub-alpine climate and is protected from cool northern winds by the mountain ridges of the Julian Alps and Karavanke. This destination can cater for nature enthusiasts, those needing rest and relaxation, or sports fans. There are art galleries and museums as well as an incredible array of natural wonders to marvel at. With airport shuttles and airport taxis from Ljubljana Airport only 45 minutes or 40 kilometres, there is no excuse not to see it for yourself.
